Population Studies, which ordinarily proceeds at a glacial pace, was rocked Wednesday by a revelation that the United States harbors hundreds of millions more people than the Census Bureau has counted or calculated.
Recent estimates of the U.S. population have hovered over the rounded number 300 million.
On Wednesday, however, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose brain cells are believed to number in single digits, estimated publicly that the historic, crushing, first-of-its-kind economic implosion might put 500 million Americans out of work.
Who knew?
The only way to avoid this calamity, Pelosi warned, is to quickly enact the idiotic bill she wrote that would funnel hundreds of billions of dollars into the hands of labor unions, trial lawyers and other clients of the Democrat party in time for them to divert most of the money back into the hands of Democrat candidates running in the 2010 election campaign, whch began on Nov. 5.
Demographers were not available for comment, having rushed to Washington to lobby for a bailout that would allow them to check out Pelosi's figures.
