Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas: Do you feel that these individuals might have been incited to take the actions that they did because of radical Islam?

Attorney General Eric Holder: There are a variety of reasons why I think people have taken these actions. ...

Smith: OK, but radical Islam could have been one of the reasons?

Holder: There are a variety of reasons why people --

Smith: But was radical Islam one of them?

Calderon accused of interfering in U.S. internal affairs

Mexican President Felipe Calderon "crossed the line" by criticizing the Arizona immigration law and warning his citizens not to travel to the state, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee said Wednesday.

Calderon has been a strong critic of the controversial law, issuing a travel advisory about the dangers Mexicans might face in Arizona. On Wednesday, he criticized the law during a White House visit.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) said Calderon and other Mexican officials are acting inappropriately.

"In their advocacy efforts on behalf of Mexican citizens living in the United States, President Calderon and other officials of the Mexican government have crossed the line and are interfering in the internal affairs of the United States," Smith said in a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"These latest actions are part of a long history of interference in sovereign American affairs," he added, speaking of Mexican officials' efforts to encourage a boycott of Arizona.
