Snyder is the Republican nominee for governor of Michigan

The Republican primary for governor goes to Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder, whose “tough nerd” campaign drew interest across the political spectrum.

Snyder held a 10-point lead over U.S. Rep Pete Hoekstra, 37% to 27%, in the five-way GOP race, according to statewide returns with over 80% of precincts counted. Attorney General Mike Cox had 23%, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard had 12% and Sen. Tom George had 2%.

Snyder will face Democrat Virg Bernero, who topped Andy Dillon in the Democratic primary. Bernero led Dillon, 59% to 41%, with over 80% of precincts reporting.

A "mama grizzly," Mary Fallin, wins nomination for OK governor

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Rep. Mary Fallin (R) defeated three challengers Tuesday to win her party's nomination in the Oklahoma governor's race.

In November, Fallin will face either state Attorney General Drew Edmondson or Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, who were squaring off in the Democratic primary. With 95 percent of precincts reporting, Askins held a slim lead.

Fallin received more than 56 percent of the GOP vote, easily outpacing state Sen. Randy Brogdon of Owasso and Oklahoma City area businessmen Robert Hubbard and Roger Jackson.

A 20-year veteran of Oklahoma politics, Fallin raised more than $2.4 million for the race, more than eight times as much as Brogdon, and national Republicans hailed her victory. She was the first woman and first Republican elected lieutenant governor in Oklahoma, a post she held for 12 years before running in 2006 for Oklahoma's 5th Congressional District seat.

Joe Arpaio leads GOP field for AZ governor

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is the Republicans’ best shot at holding onto the Arizona governorship in 2010 against likely Democratic candidate Terry Goddard.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Arizona voters finds Arpaio, famed for his crackdowns on illegal immigrants, leading Goddard, the state’s current attorney general, by 12 points – 51% to 39%. Seven percent (7%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

Embattled incumbent Republican Jan Brewer, who stepped up to the governorship from secretary of state when Janet Napolitano became secretary of Homeland Security, trails Goddard by nine points – 44% to 35%. In that match-up, nine percent (9%) like another candidate. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure whom they’ll vote for.
