Barack Obama is an audacious man. Burdened by a paper-thin, achievement-free resume, he rendered the resume irrelevant by commanding attention to the man-in-full, tall and lean, always on the move.
Now, 17 months into his first term, he is politically embattled but still on the move, still on the make. Courtesy of U.S. taxpayers and their lenders, he has just made a $50 billion down payment on the next leg of his political journey, which has to do with governing the world.
Neither he, nor anyone else, knows what the next post will be, but the route to it runs through Europe. Using Greece's financial debacle as cover, Obama has offered the Euro bloc $50 billion to prevent a domino effect. The U.S. will have to borrow much of the money, but Europe's socialist leaders will be grateful.
The odds are that, as Obama continues to wear out his welcome at home, the Europeans will be looking for another American to take the reins, perhaps as secretary-general of the United Nations. But then, it could be something much bigger.
European leaders now regularly disparage the UN and other international arrangements, calling for international government.
From Prisonplanet: "A recently published lengthy UK Government report suggests appointing a global body such as the UN to exclusively regulate world wide geoengineering of the planet in order to stave off man- made global warming."
"The House of Commons report, entitled The Regulation of Geoengineering, was compiled by the government’s Science and Technology Committee in collaboration with the U.S. House of Representatives Science and Technology Committee."
Pope Benedict has called for world government to manage economic affairs. Others want the internet under the control of some international body.
Would the narcissist-in-chief be interested in worldwide power? Without a doubt. He will be available early in 1913, but might be willing to leave even before November 2010.
