What does diversity mean to you? Same-sex marriage? Building a giant mosque on the 9/11 spot in New York? Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court?
To the largest teachers union, the National Education Association (NEA), diversity means celebrating the anniversary of the Communist takeover of China by Mao Zedong. The NEA posted this on its website calendar as a diversity event for October 1.
Thankfully, we live in a wonderful era when parents, Tea Partiers, conservatives, and students can rapidly spread the news ignored by the mainstream media. After this activity suggestion for teachers was reported on WorldNetDaily, the Mao calendar item disappeared (without comment) from the NEA's website.
It's hard to make sense out of the fascination that liberals have with Mao, who is known to history as the champion murderer of all time. Barack Obama's communications czar, Anita Dunn, called him one of her two "favorite political philosophers."
We thought Dunn was thrown under the bus after that embarrassment became public, but now she's back with an assignment from the Obama Administration to convince the American people that we really like Obamacare after all.
Dunn is unlikely to succeed in this effort, but the NEA will still be working and spending political money to force national healthcare on us. That's just one of scores of leftwing policies approved at the NEA's annual convention in New Orleans this summer so that the NEA's highly paid staff can lobby for legislation the NEA wants and shovel out money to candidates who support NEA policies.
The NEA was the No. 1 big spender in federal and state political campaigns and ballot measures in the 2007-2008 election cycle, according to a comprehensive analysis compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics and the National Institute on Money in State Politics. The NEA spent $56.3 million, four times more than any other big-bucks donor.
The NEA's political contributions go 95% to Democratic candidates or to promote leftist ballot issues. Teachers, who pay hundreds of dollars in annual dues to national, state and local affiliates, have no control over the NEA's political advocacy or endorsement of candidates.
Teachers in 28 states risk losing their jobs if they refuse to join a union. Some employees are forced to pay dues even if they don't join a union.

Obama's leftist team is doing to the U.S. what it did to Illinois
"Unsustainable" is a scary word that recently entered political discourse, coming authoritatively from Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf. Unsustainability is the operative moniker for Barack Obama's massive deficit spending, which Elmendorf said "cannot be solved through minor tinkering."
The CBO predicts an increase in our public debt from $7.5 trillion at the end of 2009 to $20.3 trillion at the end of 2020 if Obama's fiscal 2011 budget is implemented. As a percentage of gross domestic product, the debt will rise to 90% from 53%.
Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., sharpened the focus by asking the CBO director: "What's going to be necessary (is) either a 25% increase in taxes or a 20% reduction in spending, or some combination thereof. Is that correct?" Elmendorf replied "yes."
Americans are beginning to wonder if Greece is the picture of the U.S.' future. But we need look no further than the place where Obama and his team were trained in community organizing and bully tactics to redistribute the wealth: Illinois.
Illinois was the stomping ground for years for Obama, his top advisers Rahm Emanuel, Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod, and his appointees such as Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. After they promoted themselves to Washington to run the country, other Obama associates who didn't make the cut continued to run Illinois into the ground, as the Illinois unemployment rate jumped from less than 5% to nearly 11%.
For years, we thought California was the most fiscally irresponsible of all 50 states, but Illinois has now taken the lead. A lengthy news article in the New York Times was headlined: "Illinois Stops Paying Its Bills, but Can't Stop Digging Hole."
Under years of Democratic leadership, Illinois has refused to honor its obligations, cut spending or trim its shockingly large deficit, which at $12 billion per year approaches nearly half its budget. As a result, Illinois' credit rating has been downgraded and it pays a massive amount in interest on its loans.
That's like a family making $50,000 but spending $75,000 each year. Obviously, it won't take long before such a family would lose everything it has.

Obama bloats school budgets to build a "cult of Obama"
President Obama's budget has added more than $100 billion of federal taxpayer money to what is called "education," so that means it will be spent by alumni of the Saul Alinsky school of radical community organizing and/or the Chicago Democratic machine. We're indebted to Pamela Geller of AtlasShrugs.com for exposing the shocking use of some of these funds.
Obama is using the public schools to recruit a private army of high-schoolers to "build on the movement that elected President Obama by empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda." We now know that Obama's "agenda" is to move the United States into European-style socialism.
Obama's Internet outreach during his campaign, Obama for America, has been renamed Organizing for America (OFA) in order to recruit students to join a cult of Obama and become activists for his goals. Geller discovered that the teacher of an 11th-grade government class in Massillon, Ohio, passed out the sign-up sheet, headed with Obama's "O" logo, asking students to become interns for Organizing for America.
These interns will be given an intensive nine-week training course using comprehensive lesson plans. Assigned readings include Stir It Up: Lessons from Community Organizing and Advocacy by the left-wing activist Rinku Sen, Saul Alinsky's notorious Rules for Radicals and particular sections of Obama’s Dreams From My Father dealing with Obama's days as a community organizer in Chicago.
Republican students will be filtered out of the intern program by requiring applicants to answer questions that reveal their politics. One example is, "What one issue facing our country is important to you and why?"
Geller said the purpose of this training to become Alinsky-style community organizers, is "of course, to elect more Democrats."
